A short biography

For over 20 years, I worked in the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices of IDEO, a global design and innovation firm. During the last dozen years, my role involved writing, editing, speaking, and teaching about design thinking and the company’s history, culture, and processes.

As a writer and editor, I worked with the founder, the company’s partners, the design staff, clients, journalists, and academics to create case studies, external websites, competition entries, project pages, blogs, wikis, presentations, proposals, and a variety of communication pieces published on websites, in emails, and in physical spaces.

Since going freelance in 2009, I’ve continued to offer my ability to write to clients in the design industry and beyond, and I’ve begun an eclectic blog to exercise some new writing muscles.

I live in El Cerrito, California with my partner Susan, in a house that lets us see the San Francisco Bay and, if the fog allows, the Golden Gate Bridge. For fun, I play bass and guitar, read a lot, and exchange messages with my college-age sons.
